Like Cole’s early trio, the Oscar Peterson Trio that first became popular featured piano, bass (Ray Brown), and guitar, most notably Herb Ellis. Cascades of many notes characterized Peterson’s playing. His earlier work, if often glib, was nevertheless invariably swinging.
