Quincy Vidal- Cookin’ in Brooklyn (2010)

MC/Vocalist Le’Asha Julius and MC Caleb Eberhardt met on a star somewhere between San Francisco and Washington DC. Soon after, their serendipitous musical connection blossomed into an idea, a name, and eventually an exciting debut album that will soon become a hit throughout the true school blogosphere.
Quincy Vidal‘s Cookin’ in Brooklyn slithers slowly through a thick urban bohemian mist and feeds on eclectic bodies of nostalgia. Its 11-track body is full of warmth, whimsy, and weirdness as Caleb’s playful poetics dart and weave through Le’Asha’s soothing vocals. It’s tight and compact frame allow their essence to easily sink in, but don’t be fooled– this duo has many musical layers that will need multiple digestions.
I can already foresee a slew of Arrested Development comparisons fired in their direction, but I won’t go there. All I know is something is cookin’ in Brooklyn…and it smells damn good.
