SlaughtaHouse is the first album from hip hop group Masta Ace Incorporated, consisting of Masta Ace, Lord Digga, Paula Perry, Eyceurokk and Leschea. Released three years after Ace’s acclaimed debut Take a Look Around, the loose concept of the album is addressing the growing trend of violence in hip-hop music at the time, notably from the West Coast. He addresses this satirically in the over-the-top single “Slaughtahouse”.
The album was notable for infusing West Coast funk-influenced beats with rough “New York rhyming.” The hidden track “Born To Roll”, a bass-heavy remix for the single “Jeep Ass Niguh”, became a hit in 1994, reaching the Top 25 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also presaged a new bass-heavy direction on his next album, Sittin’ on Chrome. The album also includes underground classics such as; the title track, “Saturday Nite Live,” “Style Wars” and “Ain’t U Da Masta.”
