Vanderslice Questions n Answers (2014)

Renowned crate digger and hardcore enthusiast Vanderslice has been swimming upstream in Rap’s Digital Era for years now. With his cohort Stu Bangas, he released the well received Diggaz With Attitude in 2012. Showcasing some of most talented—and morbid—of the underground, the album was a dense, 17-track project that built on the duo’s substantial work in the lost art of searching for samples before Google. Returning to the scene sans Stu Bangas and with more clout to his name, Vanderslice presents Everything’s Awesome. Running for 20 songs this time, the project is spacious and gradual while still keeping its edge.

K1: how many records do you have in your collection ?

V:I only keep a choice selection and I sell the rest.. I have a constant turnover I only have about 1200 – 1500. but every piece is worth something.

K1 What was the first hip hop record you purchased ?
V: I bought Fat Boys “Crushin” cause I loved the cover

K1: Is there a record you dont have and would like to have in your’e collection ?

V: way too many to name I really can’t even pinpoint a top 5. There are thousands of records I wish I had but can’t find or they’re super expensive.

K1: wax or cd
V: wax always. Cd’s and iTunes are the same exact media.. vinyl is something you can hold and collect. It’s as much art as it is media.

K1: who is your’e favourite artist to work with ?

V: My favorite rapper out is Freddie Gibbs, and working with him has been an amazing outcome every time.

K1: last but not least whats next for vanderslice ?

This coming Tuesday we have an album coming out called The Winning Team. It’s a collaborative effort between myself, Awar, and my man Green Steez. It features Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, BJ The Chicago Kid, Latoiya Williams, King Los, Troy Ave, and Has Lo
