Another T-DOT marksman with flawless deliveries and lyrics of fury, Louwop (The Dirty General) is a MC’s MC none of this young fake thug drug slinging bullshit that seems to plague our city just as much as others. Toronto has substance worth listening to, this album allows heads to give a sign of relief, there are true artists in this city who know how to rock mics still maintaining that same boom bap feel simply elevated to a higher level. “The Spic Who Sat By The Door “was inspired by award-winning black literary tradition The Spook Who Sat By The Door, a novel about one man’s reaction to oppression as he masters CIA tactics and forms a freedom fighting regime. Louwop’s own soulful hip hop has militant overtones of prophecy, honesty and introspection. With a strong independent vibe, his music hearkens the lost era of hip hop, evoking comparisons to Common, Black Thought (of The Roots), Rakim and Nas. For Louwop, life is about freedom to be and the strength of inner revolution for universal revolution. As he puts it, “We can’t change anything without changing ourselves first, so my revolution is my change from who I am to who I want to be – ultimately, to be a better man.” The album contains 11 solid tracks featuring production from PhD, Dj Catalist, S.Banger and Murr of The Grass Roots with guest appearences by Elohim Marino, Galactus and Stic Man of Dead Prez. – DIRTYDOTBOOMBAP
