Rebel Diaz – the in-your-face trio out of Chicago mix strong political statements with their dynamic flow and character. As a performance group, Rebel Diaz came together in early 2006 when they were invited to perform their revolutionary music at the historic immigrant rights march in New York City, in front of 500,000 people.
This opportunity to speak to the masses began as a direct extension of their political work in the South Bronx, where they currently organize around immigration, education and housing issues.
Today, Rebel Diaz travels throughout the world performing and organizing, using Hip Hop as a tool for education and social change.

A native of the “Uptown” and “North Pole” neighborhoods of Chicago’s North side, E.C. Illa (also known as E.C. & WhiteFolks) began his recording career in 1990 as a member of The Ill State Assassins, a rap and production group that spawned several successful nationally-recognized artists such as Twista, The Legendary Traxster, Toxic and others. After his music began circulating throughout Chicago’s inner-city and college radio stations abroad, E.C. Illa started solidifying himself as one of the few well-respected white rap artists of an era in rap history when most non-black rappers were quickly dismissed. Having grown up within Chicago’s infamous gang culture, Illa’s fluently-street music was able to reach far beyond previous attempts by other white rap artists to be embraced as legitimate or “real.” E.C.Illa’s vinyl-only debut was an EP titled “The Invisible Man” (1992) released on Mob City Records, an independent label owned by Dirk van den Heuvel, a DJ for Northwestern University’s “Street Beat” radio show. Mob City records would go on to release Illa’s first full-length album titled “Ill State of Mind” (1993), as well as other selected 12” singles from those releases.

Dah Shinin’ is the debut album from Brooklyn Hip Hop duo Smif-N-Wessun. Members Tek and Steele made their debut previously on Black Moon’s classic 1993 album Enta Da Stage. Dah Shinin’ has become one of the most heralded New York Hip Hop albums from the mid-’90s, famous for its hardcore lyrical content and dark, dusty beats. Production was handled by Da Beatminerz members DJ Evil Dee, Mr. Walt, Rich Blak and Baby Paul. The most famous aspect of the album is arguably the arrival of Hip Hop supergroup, the Boot Camp Clik, one of the most prominent rap crews of the ’90s. The group includes Black Moon member Buckshot, Heltah Skeltah and O.G.C., as well as Tek and Steele. All members make an appearance on the posse-cut “Cession at da Doghillee”.

A few words from Premo: In the days that we are living, in this very moment, we purists of true music are witnessing the decline of the so-called major label. The name of that label is Year Round Records, and it does just that. First out are the NYGz (pronounced EN-Why-Geez). It stands for New York Giantz which we all know cannot be used, but the name represents all of the above. The new album called “Welcome 2 G-Dom” provides the street landscape of skills from the Underground Hip Hop sound. MCs Panchi and Shabeeno drop it down like no other in this flooded pool of nonsense. The lead single (also available from Traffic Ent.) “Ya Dayz R #’d” backed with “N.H.B.” and “What Kinda Life” sets the platform for the dependability we are bringing. Thanx to all the producers on this album: Emile, Kingdom, Thorotracks, Harlem Fatz and Biggest Gord… and of course me, for another job well done.
