Kosher Kris’ latest mix tape, Swisher Sweets, features Kris painting pastel pictures of a typical LA skate kid’s life that includes smoking weed, sex, chasing girls, chasing dreams, and overall “not giving a fuck”. Here’s to the creatively motivated slacker generation and the good old palm tree rap that never fails to make my day. Samples and the free full mix tape download below.

Ever since Chuuwee flipped every up and coming youngin’ on their ass and sent them 6 Feet Deep, I have been hooked on his golden era ethos and work ethic. Judging by his output over the last month, Chuuwee isn’t here to pound his chest and rest easy over a few blog posts and props. He remains ravenous, aggressive, passionate, and in tune to the talent he possesses, which can be heard in every freestyle and leak he has dropped thus far. This rare mix of desire and effortless aptitude reminds me of another recent Northern California MC success story, but before I make that bold comparison I will let you listen to Chuuwee’s latest free EP and form your own opinion.
Sunday Afternoon is a Mini-Tape Chuuwee compiled in one evening. The Tape follows the timeline of how long it took to record and finish each track and features what the 19 year old Sanchez Rivierra does best– murdering beats while brewing scalding cauldrons of early 90’s nostalgia.
This gives away my “bold comparison” from earlier, but– imagine the possibilities if Chuuwee could find his Exile? (Lee Bannon?) Celebrate another section of hip hop’s new youth movement with the free download below.
El Paso, Texas born producer, Hexsagon, has channeled the infamous ‘Yardbird’ Charlie Parker to construct one of better tribute beat tapes to come out in 2010. The Charlie Parker Beat Tape features various loops and samples of Parker’s most influential work as one of the greatest jazz saxophonists to ever live. The 14-track beat tape flows seamlessly with beautiful song sequencing, blends, and interview clips with Dizzy Gillespie, Jay McShann, and Chan Parker, making Hexsagon’s beat tape a well constructed, cohesive piece of work, rather than a haphazard compilation.

KLIMT RECORDS
In early 1965, just as the West African High-life scene
was becoming rather a drag, and everybody was bored
with it all, the revolutionary sound of
Fela Ransome Kuti & His Koola Lobitos burst upon us.
This fantastic sound now as a permanent place in
West African Music – and is rapidly becoming popular in
other parts of the world.
A strikingly original Musicia, Fela Ransome Kuti was
trained at the Trinity College of Music, London.
From the very first, he was influenced by those
“greats” of the jazz world – Thad Jones and Miles Davis.
He gained much practical Experience doing spare time
“gigs” with London-based jazz-men.
A very talented Musician – Fela’s customary instrument
is the trumpet (did you ever doubt it!) but he is also
swinging pianist and rave vocalist. He is also composer
and arranger. A Musicians’ Musician in fact.
To maintain his reputation as West Africa’s leading
Musician, Fela is continuously experimenting with varying
forms of High-life and other exotic rythmic patterns.
The result of those experiments are evident on all the
numbers of this LP.
Even the old familiar numbers have that new and original
High-life tempo that Fela has made his own.
Many so-called original bands have found fleeting success
on the West African scene – only to fade quickly into
obscurity. Because of his creative talent, his continual
search for new sound and new musical expression, we can be
sure that Fela, and his music, are going to be with us a
very long time indeed.

This 11 track ‘EP’ was unleashed on January 1st, 2004 to a live audience at Toronto’s Poor Alex Theatre (R.I.P.), and has been very well recieved amongst critics, peers and fans alike. While many hip hop artists and rappers find themselves pigeonholed into one style, sound or “scene” Corrupted have a style that they can truly call their own.
