Somewhere between the land of Native Tongues and the Rawkus era roost, Windy City wordsmith RacecaR is busy motor mouthing metaphors and conscious conundrums over clouds of jazzy dust. Since the release of his first 12″ with producer K-Kruz as Modill in 2004, RacecaR has kept his pistons pumping with an unstoppable grind and relentless passion for making true school hip hop music. With three critically acclaimed Modill projects under his belt (Midnight Green (2005), Outtakes & C-Sides (2006), and Modill (2009)), RacecaR has become a European mainstay and a well respected figure in the Chicago hip hop community; however, for some odd reason, he still remains a relatively unknown MC within the blogosphere. This is exactly why RacecaR is the subject of my first post and the first MC I will shine a spotlight on for the first edition of “Get Familiar With…”

Besides this one post, a first time future RacecaR fan will definitely want to begin his/her journey with Modill’s debut album, Midnight Green. Full of spaced out soul, crisp drums, and features from De La Soul’s Dave, Diverse, and future Get Familiar With candidate Thaione Davis, RacecaR’s unveiling is an unheralded underground classic. Proof can be found in the streams and downloads below.

In 2010, RacecaR continues to burn rubber and do donuts around the globe. He most recently connected with long time friend and MC Apoc on a side project that began with a single from Apoc and Rel’s (The Ritz) 2008 record, The Night of Day. The popular Langston Bukowski single motivated the two artists to collaborate on an entire album, which turned into the slept on Down & Out in Chicago and Los Angeles freebie that has been collecting digital dust on Bandcamp’s mantle since the turn of summer. Other than that, he remains buried in blog rubble, unknown or forgotten, until now.

Download: Debilorithmicos- Devil’s Hand ft. RacecaR and Sarah G

A few months ago I was singing the praises of Chicago MC RacecaR; an incredibly slept on talent that some might know as 1/2 of Modill alongside producer K-Kruz. Since his Debilorithmicos feature, I made it a point to keep in contact with him and all his musical endeavors, a connection that quickly paid off when this dope record hit my inbox– RacecaR and Apoc’s (better known as Langston Bukowski) collaboration album, Down & Out in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Featuring production from Earmint, Rel, and K-Kruz, RacecaR and Apoc trade vicious verses over a riot of electro spiked foundations. This is quite a different sound environment for RacecaR, who usually has his feet propped up on K-Kruz’ dusty jazz clouds, but the dude was blessed with one of those Black Thought flows that sounds good over any type of sample or instrument.

Peep two of my favorite tracks from the free album below and continue to get yourself affiliated with Modill & RacecaR by downloading it in full and checking the other tracks I tossed up. If you like what you hear, the full PHYSICAL version of the album (along with the 320 kbps digital version) is available to purchase for the gracious and meager price of 5 bones. Cough it up!

I caught Muneshine flashing this around on his twitter a few days ago and thought it deserved a post. This unreleased 2006 mix tape is full of collaborations and can’t miss true school remixes of various golden era gems. Grab some icy hot for your neck along with your headphones– Muneshine is the Jose Bautista of this rap shit.

You can call them the Anti-Lebrons because unlike King James, Poetic Republic, Muamin Collective, and hip hop quartet Keyel are making Cleveland proud. Building on Vol. 1, their celebrated 2009 introduction to the blogosphere, Keyel MC Twizz (formerly known as Prose) has released Summer Stars— a 15-track mix tape that serves as a tour through the world of Twizz and his partners in rhyme.
