I’ve been following the homie Munoz for around two years now. When I first heard him I thought he was nice but over the years he’s really been making me wonder if he’s actually Madlib’s long lost son or something! This project serves as a great introduction to Munoz’s music for the many who haven’t heard of this phenomenal young talent. It’s a compilation of some of our personal favorites from his previous albums dating back to when he was eleven and a handful of new/unreleased music to give a taste of things to come. Munoz will most definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years so do yourself a favor and get on board now! I can’t wait to hear what this guy sounds like when he can legally drive! LOL

DJ Serious has been on the Toronto scene since 1995 both in the studio as well as producing others material. The album opens of with a loungy intro wittily titled ‘Intro’. Next he is off into some ‘serious business’ showing his DJing skills right off the bat. It features Brass Munk and DJ Grouch and comes off being one of the hottest tracks on the album. He manages to keep the fun in hip hop and providing a community feeling in the Toronto area.

BrassMunk is a hip hop group formed in 1997 in Scarborough, Ontario. The group consists of musicians S-Roc, Clip, Agile and Reign. Brassmunk released a number of independent singles in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and released their first EP, Dark Sunrise, in 2002 on 54th/Virgin Music Canada. The following year, Dark Sunrise was rereleased worldwide on Battleaxe Records as an LP, and included their previous independent releases. “Dark Sunrise” was nominated for Best Rap Recording at the 2004 Juno Awards. Funny thing is my little cuzin used to tell me about his cousin(sroc) who was going to put out a rap album and that the group was called Brassmunk. Little did I know my cousin was actually telling the truth. One day I was watching Rap City on Much Music (Canadian Tv) and up popped a Brassmunk video by the name of El Dorado. El Dorado is a single off Dark Sunrise and is one of the illest on the album. Later they came out with the video for Big which also blew my mind. After calling my cousin a lier he later brought me this album sighned by the whole crew. Anyways now that im done droppin the knowledge check out some more Canadian hip hop and grab this album.

The Wailers were a ska, rocksteady, and reggae group formed in Kingston, Jamaica in 1963, consisting of Bob Marley, Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh and Cherry Smith. They were variously called The Teenagers, The Wailing Rudeboys, The Wailing Wailers and finally The Wailers. By 1966 Braithwaite, Kelso and Smith had left the band, which then consisted of the trio Wailer, Marley and Tosh. Some of The Wailers most notable songs were recorded with Lee “Scratch” Perry and his studio band The Upsetters. In the early 1970s The Upsetters members Aston “Family Man” Barrett and his brother Carlton (Carlie) Barrett , formed the Wailers Band, providing instrumental backing for The Wailers. The Wailers recorded groundbreaking reggae songs such as “Simmer Down”, “Trenchtown Rock”, “Nice Time”, “Stir It Up” and “Get Up, Stand Up”. The Wailers broke up in 1974, each of the three main members going on to pursue a solo career. Bob Marley achieved international fame with Bob Marley & The Wailers (with the Wailers Band as backing band and the I Threes as backing vocalists). Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer both enjoyed considerable solo success as reggae music continued to gain popularity through the 70s and 80s. They were supported by their respective backing bands Word, Sound and Power and The Solomonic Orchestra. Most of the group’s members have since died: Marley died in 1981, Tosh in 1987, Braithwaite in 1999 and Smith in 2008. Bunny Wailer and Beverley Kelso are the only surviving members of the original group.
