RJD2 returns with the highly anticipated 4th solo LP The Colossus’. Marking the 10th year of his career, the album showcases the myriad of styles RJD2 has spanned as a maverick, respected producer for himself, and others. Collaborating with MC’s, vocalists, and various instrumentalists, it displays an urgency and sophistication rarely seen.
Weaving together his trademark rock solid drums, soulful vibes and horns, samples and anything else available, the album is a kaleidoscopic look both forward and back. Part Impressions, part Daft Punk, and part Thin Lizzy. He is helped along by vocalists Kenna (Star Trak), Phonte Coleman (Little Brother), Aaron Livingston (The Roots ‘Guns Are Drawn’), as well as several underground MC’s and horns, woodwind, and strings. A sound to behold.

A powerful voice and a more powerful spirit. Pruven is an writer who is honest to tell you his flaws as well as his failures while giving listeners reflective concepts to enhance themselves. In his lyrics you can hear his spirituality without coming across preachy or overwhelming. Growing up Pruven was influenced by his family, religion, sports and by the various foster brothers and sisters that he grew up with. As a artist, he gives the listener a chance to walk, crawl or sprint into his mind and heart. You can tell he writes from experience and desires to inform people of the dualities of righteousness and evil. His production matching his delivery to the “T”. You have to have a ear to listen to his music and follow his words. Which evolve around the natural states and emotions of man. Doubt, Love, Courage, Rage, & Harmony. -Jesse Dunn (V.F.C.C. radio)

The collaboration between the LMNtlyst and Phantom Channel began as a random experiment. The result was a pleasant surprise. With no expectations and nothing confining them, the duo created a batch of unique specimens. Listening back on the session left them both excited by the prospect of being a part of something so different. The two partook in a few more extremely productive sessions that lead the LMNtlyst and Phantom Channel to begin honing in on the sound they were going for; open and refreshing funk based metamorphic grooves mixed with an experimental vocal elixir.

Fresh Breath Committee is a Denver, Colorado hip-hop group
driven to create substantial hip-hop music. Hip-hop is
becoming a lost art form that Fresh Breath Committee wants
to revive. Because hip-hop can change lives, hip-hop is
music with meaning, music that wants to tell a story in
order to educate others about situations that many people
face. Fresh Breath Committee wants to create music that
people can listen to and walk away with an increase in
knowledge. Fresh Breath Committee can also be called Fresh
Breath, FBC, or The Committee.
There are eight members in the group contributing to create
their first album, CPR. The eight members in the group are:
Flawless, Kontrast, Purpose, Fo Chief, Catch Lungs, Crystal,
Hi-Res and DJ Skip Ripkin. Seven of the eight members were
born in Colorado, and all eight now live in Colorado. The
eight members in the group all met at various local hip-hop
shows, though four were separately friends before becoming
involved in the group. Through creating this album, they
have come to rely on one another not only for their musical
talent, but for their friendship. That is why this hip-hop
group is powerful. They share a bond between all of them
that is fueled by respect. They each share a passion for
music and they each share an enthusiasm to create music that
is different from the norm that is being called hip-hop.
The ideology behind their debut album, CPR, is that hip-hop
is not dead, but its heartbeat is faint. Fresh Breath
Committee is here to revive the music. The Committee is here
to force life back into the hip-hop culture by putting out
an album that tells a story of their lives. They are
releasing an album with a story that listeners can relate to
and have a new aspect on their own situations that they
face. Fresh Breath is different from most hip-hop artists.
The goal of Fresh Breath is to revive hip-hop back into the
form it was created. The Committee wants to create music
that can make a difference in a persons life by giving them
an outlet, a way to sit back and listen to an energy source
that can uplift their spirits. The goal is to be heard.
Fresh Breath Committee has been touring the state of
Colorado for about a year now. It is a Denver grown group
that wants to put Colorado on the map of hip-hop so that
Colorado can be known for intelligent music with a vision.

Heralded by two of hip hop’s most celebrated producers in Madlib and Exile, wind burned Chicagoan MC aDaD is an artist to watch in 2010. Currently working on an exciting project with the aforementioned MPC masher, Exile, aDaD is a smooth spittin’ sensation with an infectious tumbling flow and singing voice. A perfect introduction to this future blog buzzed barnstormer is the track below, “Sky“, featuring Radio-like transmissions from the hottest producer in hop hop.

One of the greatest HIPHOP groups of all time. Still making amazing music.
Public Enemy’s Beats and Places gets back to the outrage, back to the immediacy of the early days, and turns out to be the most satisfying full-length this crew has released since the millennium turned. Unfortunately, it’s released at a time when the hip-hop community is PE-saturated with a remix album (Bring That Beat Back) and an album with lyrics written by Paris, not Chuck D (Rebirth of a Nation) both landing within the last 12 months. Beats and Places looks even less vital than the Paris album since it’s marked as a compilation of remixes and tracks looking for a proper home, but as the short liner notes infer, these lost tracks aren’t really leftovers. Instead they’re venom-filled, immediate cuts originally set free on the Internet in hopes of viral destruction. “Hell No, We Ain’t Allright” deals with “the son-of-a-Bush nation” and the Katrina aftermath while “Grand Theft Oil” manipulates said Bush’s speeches into a doublespeak nightmare through the power of Johnny Juice Rosado’s turntables. Rosado worked on both Yo! Bum Rush the Show and It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and adds to the old-school flavor, as does “The Flavor Flav Show” which repeats everything great about Nation’s “Cold Lampin’ with Flavor”.” It’s unfortunate all the highlights are pushed upfront, but a bonus DVD of plenty of late-era videos and extras makes up for that, leaving only the lack of helpful track-by-track information to complain about. A great deal of the album doesn’t seem to have been leaked or released in any shape or form before, but there’s no telling why it was recorded or what for. This sure sounds like half to two-thirds of a proper, vital album with some exciting extras tacked on. Guessing what would have happened had they finished this possible album instead of the other projects is both interesting and frustrating, which has been par for the course with PE as of late. Beats and Places at least suggests the future could be much, much brighter. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
