8thW1 has been around on the NYC underground hip-hop scene for quite some time. In 2008, he made a strong entrance with his debut album, lovemoneyandmusic, followed by a mixtape called Crazy 8’s. He continued to build a reputation performing with with the A-OK Collective, a group which included such artists as Fresh Daily, Homeboy Sandman, P.So the Earthtone King and Nola Darling. In 2010, 8th recorded an album with the 2 Hungry Bros called No Room for Dessert. Not one to slow down, he shortly released Suicide By Jellyfish, a collaborative mixtape he recorded with fellow A-OK member P.So the Earthtone King. After a two year hiatus, 8thW1 returned to the studio in 2012 with longtime friend and producer, PVD, to work on his next album. This project looks to be an evolution of 8thW1 with more maturity and honesty wrapped in his signature conversational flow over PVD’s jazz-influenced compositions. The new 8thW1 LP, Lux DeVille, will be available on iTunes and other fine music retailers worldwide this May via Elementality Productions. The first release since 2010’s ‘Broken Clocks’ EP, ‘Weak Stomach’ EP is a collection of shabby pulp scribbles from Zilla Rocca and his taillight chasers The Shadowboxers. For this assignment, his Wrecking Crew gin buddy Curly Castro (Man Bites Dog Records) and Chi-Town drum roller Alex Ludovico joined in-house card shark Blurry Drones for the knockout drops. Small Professor (Coalmine Records) and Has-Lo (Mello Music Group) took time away from fitting cement shoes to lend beats that hit your head like cheap wine. Compiling legitimate liquor from previous Shadowboxers juke joints and Alex Ludovico’s ‘Winning/Losing’ plus new cuts like a Beatles cover (“Maxwell’s Silver Hammer), a posse cut in honor of Walter White (“We Got Fangs This Year”), an ode to NYC blade runners (“Blood on Blood Converse), and crippled romance molded around a stark Elliot Smith lineage (“Stay Clean Remix”), ‘Weak Stomach’ EP is a real sharp shooter, a precursor for the forthcoming LP ‘No Vacation For Murder’ (which features Roc Marciano, The Kid Daytona, Geechie Suede, Open Mike Eagle, and more). “Sharks In The Golden Pond” is the latest collaborative offering from producer Lex Boogie From The Bronx & artist Goldi Gold. This project maybe the perfect instrument to take you from the freeze of this past winter to the unpredictability of the Spring. Conceptually the project can best be described as a “visual instrumental”, if you will. Being that both are master-craftsmen in their designated realms of the Hip Hop culture, it was only a matter of time before their paths would cross. Lex Boogie From The Bronx, known for his soulfully, raw, Boom Bap, drum kicks and snares hails from his name sake, the Boogie Down Bronx. Artist Goldi Gold best known for his staple life like, one of a kind graphic illustrations hails from New Jersey. When the two got together in Atlanta they immediately saw the value in each others work and shared a similar work ethic. Collaboratively this Project is symbolic to the drive and vision of these two talented Hip Hop heads.
“Time For Change” is the first release off of Innocent?’s new project “Hate It Or Love It” due out 3rd quarter 2013 on his own label T.H.E.M. Recordings.
From VA to Paris to the UK and straight to the soul, Cor Stidak, Keor Meteor and Pragmatic Theory offer “Widepsread Irregularity.” There are cameos by Virginia emcees El RaSun and Cordova on the tunes, “Pearls” and “Elixirs,” respectively. Stidak trades bars with two underground generals, New Jersey emcee Light and Slim Pickens from Boston on the wildout “Triangle Choke.” And with a styled out nod to roaring ’20’s cool, the lovely and uber talented Alexandra Bautista makes you fall in love with her creamy yet edgy soul stylings as she pairs with Stidak and Meteor on the polished, “Vermillion.” Clearly, the guys haven’t forgotten or neglected one of the essential hip hop elements–the DJ, as there is also some fine turntablism on display on a number of the cuts. Those duties were handled by RenRok, Delight and DJ Ivan6. Quite the lineup.
