DESCRIPTION
The Queens emcee’s album went virtually unnoticed in the mid nineties due to poor promotion and plenty of delays. Kwest the Madd Lad disappeared from the scene for a long time and later reconnected with his old A&R man, the producer for a good portion of “This Is My First Album” from Rick Rubin’s American Recordings label, providing him with rare studio masters from many sessions recorded between ’92-94! It was his label that swayed him into focusing more on his raunchy sex-tales and humorous storytelling, and while the album was still well received by true fans awaiting his return, Kwest felt that it sidelined him from presenting more serious concepts and battle rhymes. These are the tracks that didn’t make it! Nostalgic!

All about “Murs and the Misadventures of the Nova Express” in the words of Murs himself: “Welcome to the wonderful world of Murs 3:16 Presents. This going to be the name I slap on everything I put out from now on. MCTV, Walk Like A Man 2 and records from the homies like Supreeme and Isaiah and basically whatever the fuck else I want. This comp is to introduce you to some of my friends and also it’s helping release a little bit of the creative tension I’ve been building waiting on this Murs For President album to drop. I’m sitting on so many songs, and I’m used to dropping product freuently. But I’m still underground like that, so I had to do this. I personally call it the mystery mix and a lot of them aren’t mixed so forgive the quality. Most of these are just moments over the past few years that I thought I might share with yall. Some to make you laugh (Nascar), some to make you cry (1st Love) and some songs from my homeboys I think are fresh mixed in between because its not all about me. So enjoy! Peace, love and thanks for your support.”

V/A – Stuey Kubrick presents Camobear Orange [Camobear Orange] CD + DVD (Camobear Records is five years old. With twelve gold (plated) records, sales in the low millions, and relentless critical and parental praise, the little label that could has become a young child, vulnerable and innocent, yet sparkling with mischief and perversity beyond its years. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the label is releasing its first DVD/CD, entitled Camobear
Orange. New videos from Josh Martinez, Moka Only, and Evil, and an incredible collection of skits, live show footage, and banned foreign language films offer an inside look at the secretive cold war lair of one of Canada’s greatest cultural exports. This value-added DVD is packaged with a scorching CD of teasers for records coming down the pipeline from Camobear core artists Moka Only, Josh Martinez, The Chicharones, Evil, and The Goods. The CD features brand new party jams, breast-caressing love ballads, and riot-inducing manifestos, sure to build excitement for this Canadian powerhouse label’s upcoming releases.)

Sup, fam? What’s good? I’ve been busy with school so I really haven’t had time to post, but I thought I’d try and keep this good week of posts going.

I did a search and I’m a little surprised to find that neither of these albums have been posted. Both are solid albums; “The Litmus Test” is a collection of instrumentals that Cut Chemist has done for groups, including Jurassic 5, Ugly Duckling, Blackalicious, and Hiroshi Fujiwara & KUDO. This for me is a big deal because not only are these instrumentals from my favorite groups, but these are also instrumentals from some of my favorite albums. It’s a mix and is only like 28 minutes, but it’s still worth it. Cut Chemist to me is largely underrated, but we’ll discuss that in a minute…

“Live at the Futureprimitive Soundsession” is Cut Chemist and Shortkut improvising on 6 turntables. This shows the range of Cut Chemist’s skills. He’s like a freestyle turntablist; of course, Shortkut doesn’t hurt this mix at all, because he’s one of the best scratch DJs in my opinion. In no way does either outshine the other; Cut Chemist and Shortkut share the stage equally. You’ve probably heard of Shortkut from his work with the Beat Junkies, or less likely, the Invisbl Skratch Piklz, one of the most underrated scratch groups of all time.

“The Audience’s Listening” is an amazing album. It’s a bit fleeting though because despite it’s prowess it really hasn’t caught that much fire. The reviews for it were excellent, but I still see 20 requests for “Monkey Barz” for every request I see for “The Audience’s Listening”. But still, this was probably the best album of 2006 for me. Cut Chemist does his best work on here, cutting each record to pieces. It was this very record that got me into scratching, and honestly, I have yet to hear a better scratch record than this one. Cut Chemist was always considered a superproducer, but I think that it was this record that really showed everyone how shaped he is. This record shows him as multi-faceted; not only can he produce, but holy fuck, he can scratch too! Download this album if you haven’t heard it; if you already have this album, give it another listen for me. One.
