Lightborn has emerged from the Philly underground as one of hip hop’s most talented and respected lyricists and producers. The debut album “Angel of Def” created waves in the underground that reached overseas and his poweful live perfomances filled with live turntablist cuts and spoken word breaks brought him recognition in a city that is tough on any one who claims to represent it. The original style of Lightborn has set him apart in a time where it seems half the world under 25 years of age clamis to be an mc. “The Psychology of Fire” the new album which features Wu Tang Clan’s Killah Priest, Philadelphia Legend Maylay Sparks, and other loyal members of his Heliopolis crew, further set him apart from the commercialized, fashion oriented hip hop masses, while elevating his status and appeal as an ill original in The ART. Change is back with his follow up LP, “Same As It Never Was”. The same emcee who brought you the debut success “Tuesday Mournings” in 2005. Change takes a trip back in the Hip-Hop timeline to bring you an album reminiscent of the mid 90’s era, often referred to as the “golden age” of Hip-Hop. With all sample based production handled by JustMe, Clockwork, Anno Domini, and PacoNaut, this LP brings you exactly what’s been missing from Hip-Hop as of late. Pure lyricism over banging beats. With guest features from Othello (Lightheaded), Braille (Lightheaded), Wonder Brown (Scribbling Idiots), and JustMe (Scribbling Idiots). This album gives you what you want, and more importantly, what you need. Running Time: Approx 43 mins.

******** For some reason the group tagged it as “Free Be The Poor” but i cant figure out why. Should be “Blessed Be The Poor”.

INTELLIGENT MUZIK proudly presents “Blessed Be The Poor,” a reflective album from critically acclaimed artist and activist Wise Intelligent of the legendary Poor Righteous Teachers. Originally this album began as what Wise Intelligent affectionately titled the “Un-Mixed Tape,” an album not slated for an official release. However, after releasing the “Un-Mixed Tape” locally the demand for “Blessed Be The Poor” grew exponentially, forcing INTELLIGENT MUZIK to offer “Blessed Be The Poor” the “un-mixed tape” as an official full length album, digitally re-mastered, re-packaged complete with new images of Wise Intelligent. While on this album Wise stays true to the Poor Righteous Teachers fan-base and his Divine Land housing project constituents, he has (reminiscent of The New World Order by PRT) managed to work in an international theme as he navigates through issues affecting Martin Luther King Blvd in Trenton New Jersey, masterfully revealing there relationship to local and world politics. This work in itself demonstrates why Wise Intelligent is one of, if not the, most relevant MC of our day!

Interesting throw back to the 80’s and those great old games that you just have to love. This isnt really “hip-hop” so be warned. I could see kids all smashed together, tripping on E, giving each other a really good rub down on the dance floor, to this CD. Its not really what i listen to, so hard for me to judge it. Figured its more of 8-bits work if your interested…

Release Notes:

The pioneering duo of Zimbabwe Legit return with a hard hitting and incisive album, House of Stone. As one publication put it, ôThe first African rap group to truly reach an international audience, Zimbabwe Legit came equipped with an amazing sense of humor, fierce politics,
and a sharp understanding of history.ö Ainĺt a damn thing changed. The group continues to make their mark on this album with thought provoking lyrics over a backdrop of rugged beats. As an added bonus, this time out they brought along a whoĺs who cast of emcees including, YZ, Mike G (Jungle Brothers), Breez Evahflowinĺ, Vast Aire, Asheru (Unspoken Heard), Stic.man (Dead Prez), Prince Po (Organized Konfusion), Cadence, Chubb Rock, Apani and Skillz.

At long last!!! Offwhyte drops his third full-length album after years of anticipation since the release of his acclaimed 2002 album The Fifth Sun and most recently his 2004 EP Bow to the Sceptor! Co-founder and long reigning member of the Galapogos4, Offwhyte is somewhat of a recluse amongst many of his peers, using his time away as meditation to complete his album…he is a true perfectionist and not afraid to take chances, as this is a huge leap from his previous work while still capturing the sharp grit of his intellectual lyrics over a range of very different production from Mike Gao, Maker, Meaty Ogre, Sean Julian and more. This has been one helluva year for G4 and not a single release so far (including the tour stuff) has been a half-assed affair! From Qwel to Robust to Mestizo and now Offwhyte…to their many talented producers, Galapagos4 shows no signs of slowing down and should be considered a mainstay in the underground for a very longtime if the quality keeps up!

***** still one of my favorite CD’s to have dropped this year. Its hard to label something as “Album Of The Year” because it depends on what type of hip-hop your into. for me it depends on my mood. Sometimes that jazz/blues sound hits just right, other days its more positive, head rocking joints, and sometimes its that pure grime, that rugged, putting heads to bed type shit. this CD is just ill, sick, shit. I put this in my all time list up there with 36 Chambers. i know thats a bold statement, but thats honestly how much i liked this disc. If you didnt get this earlier this year, you missed out on ONE OF the best CD’s in 2007. Well dont miss it this time. get your neck braces out cuz this CD is a pure headbanger!
