****** ok enough bullshitting. some of that iffy stuff has worn thin on me…lets get back to that illness. this is a cd that i enjoyed with the first listen. going to have to return to this one. id like to give this a more detailed listen. i think most of you will enjoy this. ******
Rise Up, the long-awaited album from veteran underground emissaries Zeph and Azeem, offers thirteen tracks (and two interludes) worth of consciousness-lifting metaphors, party-rocking beats, and undiluted, 100% rebel music from one of hip-hop’s most slept-on duos.
As Zeph explains, “Movement and music have a lot in common. Musically, this album incorporates several styles that Azeem and I agreed on going into it. Q-Tip once described hip-hop as (a) form of music based on other forms of music. We represent that idea.” Adds Azeem, “All we knew is we wanted to create our own sound. We mixed up beat tempos with reggae and threw some Latin influences in there and shit started to come together. I don’t get an idea then write. I let the beat tell me what it needs…the vibe, the rhyme pattern. Somewhere in that process, the album named itself.”
Rise Up emanates with an almost-punk rock attitude reminiscent of the early days of hip-hop, when Grandmaster Flash and the Clash could play the same bill and not raise eyebrows. If songs like “10 Steps Ahead” and “Play the Drum” make an extra effort to be original in a time of creatively-challenged rap, well, that’s by design.

***** I cant explain this CD. Im feeling it, i played in the background a bit today. However, the one thing i just cant seem to get over is this cats voice. I would swear to God this cat reminds me of Muppet Show or Fraggle Rock character rocking a mic. The lyrics arent all goofy like a kids show, its just his voice. Its like Fraggle Rap….maybe im just losing my mind today…LoL you form your own opinion, i just bring the shit to you!!! *****

Mavrik distills the essence of hip hop through both banging beats and realistic lyrics. The duo, comprised of Loren Tallswest Tolman and Yohannes Skoda, bridges together diverse influences that include not only the rich tradition of Bay Area hip hop, but also those of the East Coast, Kenya and India.
The music uses both beats and the negative space around beats, creating a unique sound that stretches the musical boundaries of hip hop. The lyrics reflect the varied experiences of both artists, making Mavrik universal in sound and story. In a time where more and more people are seeking truth and honesty along with skill and ability, Mavriks first full-length album, About Face, musically meets these needs. “About Face” is a cohesive album that gives a fresh perspective on todays hip hop landscape, applicable to its listeners every day life. Mavriks raw nature proves that authentic art also makes the best art. The cinematic album demonstrates the duos ability to touch their listeners to make them move, both internally and externally. While some songs, such as Here We Go, both humorize and humanize the every day challenges people face, other songs, like Surrender feat. The Gift of Gab (Blackalicious) and Jennifer Johns, carry the listener through a dark schizophrenic journey that leads ultimately to the realization of hope. Throughout About Face, Mavrik invites people both identify and find new meaning within themselves, sparking new light on the darkness while accentuating the positive aspects of life and never misses a beat. ..

This was passed on to me and I honestly dont know what to think about this guy. I think the beats have a nice smooth appeal to them. Im just not sure about the lyrics on this. Im going to have to give this a few more listens before i form an opinion. I think the problem is some tracks are good and some are crap. So i find just as im getting into it, some crap comes in and just destroys my opinion. I dont know, till i decide if i like this or not, you give it a listen and see what you think. The duo of Cole “Seez Mics” Policy and Jason “t.E.C.K!” Fields are not actually from Washington DC or Baltimore – they call College Park, Maryland home – but their reputation as arguably the best hip-hop duo to come from the greater metropolitan area betwixt B-town and Dead City has been growing steadily since they first came together in 1999. Already under their belt are two LPs, Aisle 2 having garnered the most acclaim and getting them the attention that allowed Write/Hear to happen.
They’ve opened for Murs. They’ve been on a Warped Tour date. They’ve been hyping Write/Hear on their website for over two years. What took so long? Who cares. It’s finally here, and it’s better than you’re expecting, if you were expecting it at all: As the cover-art suggests, this album is built on old-skool beats and back-to-basics lyrical prowess the kind of which has been lamented so often as of late.
Write/Hear is a great album because it shows how necessary every point on the hip-hop spectrum is. I’m not going to lie and say that “This is Why I’m Hot” doesn’t have an incredible beat with mind-numbingly stupid lyrics, or say that Sage Francis doesn’t have a keen eye for exposing political turmoil… But Educated Consumers prove that you can have both, and neither, and still be good. That’s the magic of this album. It’s totally average and perfect for exactly that reason.

For everyone thinking everything is going to be great with the new Wu….check this. Could be publicity stunt….could be Rae thinks what a lot of ppl have been thinking for awhile. RZA is getting too “different” and its not the Wu that most have loved. Granted i think Wu hasnt been Wu since 36 Chambers and this doesnt come as a surprise to me….Ill still give it a listen, but this doesnt really look that good IMO. Rae calls RZA out and claims the whole crew is feeling the same.
C.R.E.A.M…….guess cash rules the friendships too…
PART 1
PART 2
I mean when Rae outright says if they put this CD out…that WU will put out ANOTHER CD WITHOUT RZA!!! Tell me this isnt some drama….
Part 3
Ghostface get’s asked about his new album and offcourse Rae’s comments regarding the new album. He even go as far to say:
When the project was over and we heard it, it was disgusting.

Release Notes:
Of all the boundary-pushing underground hip-hop acts who emerged in the late ’90s, Company Flow was easily among the hardest and least compromising, spinning highly technical rhymes over buzzing, lo-fi beats with virtually no concessions to melody or polish. It comes as no surprise that onetime Company Flow leader El-P’s solo debut, Fantastic Damage, takes a similar approach — yet it’s a logical and distinct progression from the sound that made Company Flow such seminal figures in underground rap. Fantastic Damage is even more aggressive and confrontational in its approach, and this time out, El-P himself is solely responsible for the sonic backdrop, producing the entire record by himself. If the production sounds a little fuller than Company Flow’s essential Funcrusher Plus, it’s likely because in many places, El-P has fleshed out his scuzzy, banging, stop-start percussion tracks with abrasive, distorted noise, which
sounds like nothing so much as the furies unleashed. There are also plenty of tinny, blooping vintage synths that lend the music a cold, inhuman air — and that’s no doubt intentional, because Fantastic Damage paints a chilling portrait of contemporary society that’s so bleak it often crosses into the apocalyptic. The music makes El-P’s paranoid totalitarian nightmares totally convincing, not just because of its sheer wallop, but also in the subtler details that emerge
with repeated listens — the bizarre sound snippets and ghostly washes that seem to teeter on the edge of madness. Throughout the record, El-P proves he’s one of the most technically gifted MCs of his time, spitting out near-impossible phrases and rhythmic variations that simply leave the listener’s head spinning. Accessible it isn’t, but Fantastic Damage constitutes some of the most challenging, lyrically dense hip-hop around, assembled by one of the genre’s true independent mavericks.

“Beat Diarya (bEEt dy-UH-rEE-UH) is the latest “rap experiment” from Edmonton producer Jon b. Juggling his time between Toronto and his hometown for over a year, his mantra has been a continuing mission to explore strange new rhythms and seek out new esoteric samples to boldly go where no bedroom superstars have gone before. Or he was just uninspired by the idea of a traditional remix album/mixtape, so Jon b resolved to include material that was spastic, odd and unexpected. In this rap experiment, Jon b includes “warps” of songs–sort of like a mash-up, but with his own unique interpretations. Many of the songs include sampled drums as well as sounds from drum machines (the classic TR-808 is one of his favorites). As a result, warps modify in whole or in part: the tempo, pitch and cadence of many rap anthems. On top of these remixes, he also includes a mini-anthology of exclusively Canadian talent, showcasing some of this country’s greatest rappers: Touch (The Representatives); Wordburglar (Hand’Solo Records); Mindbender (Supreme Being Unit); Max Prime (Low Budget Affiliates) and Corvid Lorax (Eshod Ibn Wyza).”

Mr. Green is a self taught, hip hop composer who takes a
straight forward approach to his production. In just two
short years, he has begun to make a name for himself by
following his simple model “if it’s a good beat, you can
feel it in your chest, and it will make you want to knod
your head”. Originally a DJ, Mr. Green’s first official
production credit came at the end of 2006 on C Rayz Walz
album “The Dropping”. The song “Childhood” featured
Matisyahu, the platinum Jewish Reggae sensation. Although it
wasn’t released as a single, the song recieved critical
acclaim and is considered a classic among C Rayz Walz and
Matisyahu fans alike. In the summer of 2007, Mr. Green
released a solo project entitled “Green Future”. The album
was a fusion project consisting half of instrumentals and
half of complete songs. The album featured several notable
Mc’s such as Killah Priest, Pacewon, Cymarshall Law, Frankie
Krutches, Rob Kelly (Ireland), Drago Balti (Tunisia) and
Baby Blue (England). ‘Green Future’ is available on I Tunes
or directly from Mr. Green through his myspace page.
Currently Mr. Green is working on a collaboration project
with former Outsidaz frontman, and legendary New Jersey MC,
Pacewon. The album, entitled Timeless, is coming out on Raw
Poetix records in the first quarter of 2008. The first
single, Hip Hop, will be dropping officially this fall.
