a Melodia consists of female MC Melodee and producer / DJ I.N.T. The duo stands for warm, soulful yet raw hiphop music from the Netherlands.

Melodee and I.N.T. currently reside in Amsterdam but met in Eindhoven, where they grew up under the smoke of the Philips factories. Hiphop heads in this industrial city live by a ‘do-it-yourself’ mentality; creating their own soundsystem, squat parties and record store. Within that underground atmosphere, I.N.T. developed his DJ and producer skills, and Melodee first stepped on the stage.

After releasing a classic tape (on old fashioned cassette) with Imadodattaz, winning several talentshows and performing live shows in Paris and Ghent, Melodee started working on a solo project. This lead to a full collaboration between I.N.T. and Melodee. The 12? vinyl single Dough/For You formed the kickoff for La Melodia in 2004. The record was released independently and distributed internationally by Rush Hour. In that same year La Melodia joined bookings agency Missin’ Link. With success: in 2005 La Melodia toured throughout Europe for a month alongside Stones Throw artists Oh No, Wildchild and oldschool legend Percee P. A Dutch act opening for an American label in cities like London, Paris, Berlin, Prague and Manchester isn’t reserved for many artists. La Melodia received positive feedback on the show and sold out the 12? twice during the tour.

Back in the Netherlands surprisingly enough La Melodia was approached by a Japanese label, Handcuts Records. Their interest was piqued after purchasing their single in a local recordstore. In 2006, La Melodia signed their album deal. Seven busy studio months later, La Melodia’s debut finally saw the light of day in Japan in December 2006 through Handcuts Records/Universal Japan. Vibing High is an organic whole of raw beats, bossa nova and warm soul with hiphop as a basis. ‘Music is all about vibe and feel’ is the main thought behind the debut, on which Melodee tells about her youth in The South, her love for music and more, surrounded by the warm sounds of I.N.T. Of course the album isn’t reserved for Japanese ears only; Vibing High will be released in the Netherlands on September 28th, 2007 by PIAS Netherlands. A release in the rest of Europe and the US will follow later this year.

Meanwhile, I.N.T and Melodee are both busy at work. I.N.T. is working on several remix projects for Stones Throw and Kindred Spirits and others and Melodee did a track with Rednose Distrikt. La Melodia does shows throughout the country, in which Melodee’s voice, flow and appearance are undeniable!

Collective Efforts emerged onto the Atlanta underground hip-hop scene in 2002 from the ashes of the acclaimed hip-hop group Live On Arrival, and garnered critical praise in 2003 with their debut album, Visions Of Things To Come. Merging the skills of MCs Ben Hameen, J-Mil and Bambu de Asiatic, and held together by the edgy, organic turntablism of DJ Creashun, Collective Efforts’ positive, powerful message sets them apart from the majority of hip-hop currently coming out of the south, and appeals to fans of both “mainstream” pop, rap, and R&B fans as well as aficionados of underground, conscious hip-hop.

Four years and three well-received albums later, the group has expanded its collective effort to include a backing band of solid musicians. Although first touted as guest members of the group, the energy and synergy between the original four and the five new musicians was unmistakable from the very first show, and soon were incorporated as full time members of Collective Efforts.

Currently in the studio working on several new tracks with the new band, as well as a remix album, Collective Efforts continues to be of underground hip-hop’s most talked about acts.

The Atlanta-based group toured the US in 2005 with Sound Tribe Sector 9 and has performed with the likes of Goodie Mob, Aceyalone, and Count Bass D, as well as playing on several festival bills with the likes of Lyrics Born, RJD2, and The Roots. In 2007, CE was asked to play at several festivals including A3C Independent Hip-Hop Festival, RE: Generation, and the Echo Project, which resulted in an article on spin.com lauding the group’s performance.

Releases include the albums ” Visions of Things To Come” (independent, 2003), “Trail Mix” (ATF Records, 2005) and ” Medicine “(ATF Records 2006); the ” Another Soulful Song ” 12-inch single (ATF, US, 2004) and the ” Higher We Rise ” single (ATF/Handcuts, Japan, 2004); a self-titled, Japanese exclusive full length was also put out by Handcuts in 2004.

What’s up everybody we’re O.C.T. (Outta-ConTrol) We started our group about 3 years ago in S. Lake Tahoe, CA. Chris A.K.A. PP and Z-Jones are from Chicago. Timmy B is from Rochester Hills, Mi and Phlip is from New York. After PP and Z-Jones moved from the Chi to Detroit they met the nasty man Timmy B and started rapping together in high school. We got our start when Timmy B and PP started jamming some funky guitar and bass tracks. Later, we laid it all down and made some beetz at D-Fect’s (Nefarious..on our top friends check that shit out!) house and threw some flows on em. We “officially” started our group in Detroit. But it wasn’t until we moved to S. Lake and met Phlip that we started playing shows and taking our group seriously. We have all been listening to and playing music since we were little punks listening to Metallica riding our bikes around town kicking over trash cans. We still listen to all kinds of music…from Bob Seager to Nelly…if your making music then its cool with us…much respect. Check out our tracks and let us know what you think. Deep inside, and underneath piles of “works in progress”, projects upon projects, and a hectic live show schedule, producer MOSHE and writer KGB found the time to conjure up a collaboration, which started off as a “side project” and rapidly manifested into much more. With a wide array of influences ranging from Portishead, Bjork, and The Doors, to Blonde Redhead and Black Moon, it’s no wonder it sounds the way it does. The songs flow into each other like there’s no distinct start/stop point, only to leave a grey hazy transition. Though both members of Project Dark are known for their “hip-hop” roots and familiar sound, Project Dark itself steers more towards a smokey, dark bar soundtrack. Touching on controversial subjects and content, but never lacking taste and maturity. Project Dark is certainly going to be the next cult classic, for the album’s plot plays out like a movi. A combination of raw talent, and a passion for old horror movies, will brand the PD insignia in minds worldwide.

Armed with little more than his father’s extensive record collection of jazz, soul, psychedelic rock, folk, comedy and a Kurzweil 2000 keyboard – Black Spade’s music is a melting pot of sounds hailing from St. Louis by way of New York, Detroit, LA, and everywhere that hip-hop has carved a distinctive and influential sound for itself.

Writing and producing all his music along with MC’ng, Spade’s one man team approach is full of burbling synths, and off-kilter drums while his voice slides smoothly over choruses coated in multi-tracked vocals and skipping roughshod drums. Attributing his distinctive sound to his home of St. Louis, Black Spade explains “We get a piece of everything by being in the middle.” However, he feels no harmonious connection to where St. Louis pop acts like Nelly, Chingy, etc. have taken hip-hop lately. Spade’s style is not like the norm. This undercurrent shows through all his music and can be heard in songs like “Evil Love,” where the keyboard hits less than a second after you expect it to. It’s subtle, but these little things are what make Black Spade’s music so compelling.

Despite his strong ties to hip-hop, Spade’s taste in music walks across genres. He listens to Prince and Dilla, alongside Bloc Party and Radiohead while using all these sounds as a blueprint for his future, one that sits under the guiding light of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew era electronic sax skronk. Then there’s his rapping – Spade’s cadence flutters up and down like Pharoahe Monch, but stays introspective like Common. Before you know it, he’ll switch to singing and suddenly his songs become less like hip hop experimentation and more like fully fleshed sketches.

In addition to music, Spade is a clothing designer who makes blazers from bits of bomber jackets and whatever odds and ends he finds while thrift store shopping. Creating clothing the same way he does music runs parallel to Spade’s sampling from his father’s record collection.

At his core, Black Spade is a producer who makes music because he loves to. His sounds are grounded in the past while still sounding futuristic, and most importantly come from the heart. Spade says, “To get my music out there to people… at the end of the day that’s what really counts.”

Diplo is on some Dope Shit, I’d say the Mr. Cooper disc is better, but Diplo has his own Sound for sure. Plus, he produced what could be One of the Top Five Beats for the year of 2007, M.I.A’s “Paper Planes” Banger… I really recommend the Paper Planes track, I got the Instrumental up here, more so than his Full Disc. There are some Really Good tracks on here, “Summer’s Gonna Hurt You” is ILL, but it isn’t really consistent. OH, there’s some tracks with Vocals as well…

The Cool Table project has been in the works since early 2005. Starting off as more of an inside joke than a serious hip-hop ensemble, Amsterdam linked forces with Abolish to form the group after coming home from a year of college in Eugene. The joke would be on them. After putting out back-to-back mixtapes in the summers of 2005 & 2006, the duo finally felt the demand from the fans to put out an album. The result? You Can’t Sit Here, Amsterdam’s innovative brainchild & the group’s first full-length effort to date. The album drops in August, featuring guest appearances from Only-One (of Sandpeople), Iznis, The Kid Espi & Hot In Pursuit.

In the pursuit of totalitarian creativity, they decided to pen an original and completely conceptual album, drawing inspiration from the most entertaining and tongue-in-cheek high school movies of the late 80’s and 90’s. The duo quickly paved the way for their sound by choosing larger-than-life beats & penning clever lyrics centered around typical school daze themes.

While the two emcees come from very different backgrounds and represent different areas of the West Coast, they effuse personality at the drop of a dime and remain dedicated to making good music both within and outside of The Cool Table theme. Amsterdam’s debut solo album Terminology is currently available in stores & online. Both emcees pride themselves on their versatility and regard their solo music as testament to that.

The Cool Table has played over 100 shows in their small lifetime, including opening slots for the likes of E-40, Twista, Tech-N9ne, Andre Nickatina, Sweatshop Union, Blue Scholars, Cunninlynguists, Pack FM, Living Legends, Moka Only (formerly of Swollen Members), Myka Nyne, Cool Nutz & DJ Chill, Grayskul, Braille, Illmaculate, Sandpeople, Stepcousins (Macklemore & Xperience) and more.
